The best chocolate chip cookie EVAR?!

Part 3 – Wednesday & Thursday This is part 3 of 3, but maybe I will tell you what happens to the rest of the dough.

Well according to the experiment on Tuesday, Wednesday’s cookie should of been better yet. So here I go again cooking just one giant chocolate chip cookie. I sticking to a fair battle got the cookie sheet, parchment paper and the scale ready. Here is my lovely 3.5 ounce ball of dough.

I have to confess that the dough is really hard because it has been in the fridge for so long, I used an ice cream scoop to gouge out dough and then formed it into a ball shape. When I bake off the entire batch I will let it come to room temp first. Funny that the instructions do not talk about the temperature of the dough.

Well the color of this cookie is much richer.

I did not wait 10 minutes to eat this one, I just couldn’t stand it. I am not sure if you can tell but there is an increase in the golden layer on the bottom of this cookie. I am not sure if that was due to the cook time or the increased time in the fridge.

So how does this cookie compare to the 24-hour cookie?  It was deeper and more complex in its flavors but over all I would not complain either way.  I did come to realize that I had forgotten to sprinkle with salt when I cooked the first one and didn’t notice it on the second one.  Something I found to be really interesting is that the amount of butter in this dough is 2.5 sticks which is just more than 1/2 a lb.  Neither the parchment paper nor the cookie sheet come out of the oven looking greasy.  There are no signs that the cookie was even there except for the chocolate.

So this morning the experiment continues, you see I only ate about 3/4 of the cookie leaving me a chuck to try in the morning.  KLT asked if I only ate 3/4 of the cookie how big were they, he was shocked when I told him like 5″ across.  Apparently the pictures of me holding cookie didn’t present enough scale.  I placed it in a zip lock baggie and left it on the counter over night.  This morning while I was getting things ready I ate 1/2 of it.  My initial reaction is “hey it’s a chocolate chip cookie it’s not BAAAD”.  But it is totally different it has become stiff and the crisp edge is harder and it is all around not as soft.  Not sure what would happen if you put the cookies in a sealable container with a slice of bread, maybe that is something I can try this weekend.  Everyone has asked me if I am bringing in cookies and I reply that I can’t cause they need to be warm.  If I try to make these in my toaster oven I wouldn’t get anything done all day.  So everyone suggested that I nuke it.  Great idea! or not.  I placed my chunk of cookie in the microwave for about 15 seconds.  The cookie returned to is wonderful softness and the chocolate became all warm, melty and messy again but the awesomeness of the crisp edge was gone.
