The story of a birthday cake.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Well I have this vision of a really tall cake.\u00a0 I don’t know why, maybe it’s because it will be “impressive”.\u00a0 This limits me to 10″ cake pans because I have enough of them to make many layers without washing in between.\u00a0 All had to be washed and dried, they sit for a long time before getting used.\u00a0 But look how pretty they are, I bet they last for the rest of my life.<\/p>\n

So we need some ingredients.<\/p>\n

\"Eggs\", \"Oil, \"the\u00a0and the seekrit ingredient <\/p>\n

Mix er up in the kitchen aid<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Then you need some pan grease to coat the pans.\u00a0 Pan grease is the greatest thing I learned in the cake class.\u00a0 Basically you just mix equal parts Crisco, Crisco oil and flour.\u00a0 Nothing sticks to the pan with this wonderful stuff.\u00a0 I apply with a brush and use this for everything.<\/p>\n

Well here are a 2 of the four layers.\u00a0 This one cracked and fell into pieces. I am not worried I will have tons of frosting.\u00a0 Friday there will be more pictures as I torte and assemble this beauty.\u00a0<\/p>\n

How about some cookies?<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you know me then you know I don’t turn on the oven in the summer unless I have to.\u00a0 Making a birthday cake for a friend is a have to.\u00a0 I had seen a couple cookie recipes on smittenkitchen.com<\/a> and to be honest they sounded pretty good.\u00a0 So if the oven is on I might as well try to make them, right?<\/p>\n

Here are the Lime Melt-Aways <\/a>waiting for the oven on my NEW cookie sheet.\u00a0 Man I love Wilton<\/a>\u00a0pans and their Lifetime Warranty.<\/p>\n

I love those little specks of lime zest sticking out!<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Here they are all ready to eat.\u00a0 My initial thoughts are that the lime flavor is weak in the begining but\u00a0it is really there\u00a0as you finish the cookie.\u00a0 Maybe it is all that sugar on the outside.\u00a0 Yummy buttery cookies!<\/p>\n

Then there are the Margarita Cookies<\/a><\/p>\n

Here they are ready for the oven.\u00a0 They are covered in an egg wash and rolled in sugar and salt.\u00a0 Finding the sanding sugar was impossible so I went with Raw Cane Sugar.\u00a0 Flake Sea Salt <\/a>I figured would be difficult to find but Payless actually had it, $3.39 for 4.25 oz.\u00a0 Of course you can’t find the exact things listed in the recipe that would be too easy.<\/p>\n

So my thoughts on these, AWESOME!\u00a0 Salt and sweet is always a great combo.\u00a0 More tequila might be a good idea.\u00a0 I think they look just fine and appreciate the recipe from Smitten.\u00a0 Hey she twitters to! Here they are cooling and ready for consumption.<\/p>\n
