I am a little behind and really I am not sure why. I feel like I have been pretty busy but I really don’t think I have anything to show for it. *sigh*
OK now back to our BLT. KLT and I don’t mind spending a little extra money on food if it’s going to be GOOD! Hey don’t get me wrong I still shop at the local bulk club and the big box store to save money on every day items. Well the item in question of being good is the Bacon, as you know bacon is the star of a BLT. Oh and I should mention now I don’t like the L or the T, honest I just don’t know why cause I will eat a club sandwich. Here is our star just breaking out of its white paper packaging.
This bacon came from the Amish man and his son down at the Farmers Market and at $8 a pound I have some pretty high hopes. I have to say I might of been a little disappointed upon first glance, looks a little fatty for me. Oh right it’s bacon never mind no need to club me folks. There were 16 slices in the 1 lb package that makes for 1 oz slices, pretty thick. IMO there is only one way to cook bacon and that is by lining a baking sheet with parchment or wax paper, placing the bacon on top and putting it in the oven.
It cooks so even, there is no popping and burning of your skin and hey you don’t even have to clean the entire kitchen. If you are a crazy old school girl like myself and you keep your bacon grease for other uses cooking the bacon in the oven produces a very nice and clean substance. Here it is in it’s finished form. I have to say it was pretty darn tasty!
So tomato, gotta have it if you are making a BLT 😉 We picked some up at the farmers market for several reasons. First Friday when I was home I let the dogs out so I could sweep the floor. BAD move the “girls” ate every damn tomato on my 3 vines. Even the green ones. I was just getting ready to bring in a bunch and put them away for the winter. 🙁 The other reason is that I feel you need a tomato the size of your bread. Small ones want to slide around on that bed of mayo and depart your sandwich. So here is my lovely 1 lb tomato.
And the long awaited finished product.
For those of you who are curious I had a bacon and grilled cheese sandwich that contained 3 types of cheese. It was OMG dog gone tasty.
