By Tamera, on November 8th, 2011% I have deteremined that my stress level the last 1.5 months has been pretty high and I am sure it revolves around #SQLPASS. Here let me explain.
First there is my company that made me dance around like a puppet and sit on pins and needles while waiting to find out if I was going to get to attend this year. You see last year the “boys” went and I didn’t get to. One of them, who happens to be my boss’s boss would come by and rub it in that he was going and that I wasn’t then I got the drop by stories from PASS for months after. . . . → Read More: Leading up to #SQLPASS

It started feeling real on Monday night of #sqlpass week. It was at a very late dinner with @airbornegeek and my co-workers; we were sitting at The Tap House when all of the sudden (you know at nearly midnight) walked in a large group of my favorite people in the #sqlcommunity. I walked over to say HI to all these “strangers” I had never met in person, there were hugs and laughs and OMG! Everywhere. I walked back to our table and said “Guys MY FAMILY is here, we have to go sit with them!” they replied with “we are going to the hotel and to bed”. I followed . . . → Read More: #SQLFAMILY

I am not a DBA, and I have only pretended to be one after KLT had moved on to TN. But I have seen all of these items cause problems for databases and as a customer of these databases I found it to be extremely annoying.
users who don’t care users who have too many rights USERS who have no knowledge of how a DB works or how to write SQL and those who have no idea what could make a query slow A bad data model Forcing size limit on a DB and requiring a DB to fix it. BAD! . . . → Read More: Meme Monday 5/2

As part of my 2011 resolutions I feel the need to participate in T-SQL Tuesday (we’ll get to more about that later). First some of you reading this are expecting a recipe and some FOOD PORN, sorry not today I am a geek and sometimes like to show that off and today is it!!! T-SQL Tuesday was started by Adam Machanic (guess what? He has a blog and is on twitter!) and the basic rule is that someone new each month host and chooses a topic. This month it is our friends MIDNIGHTDBA (Jen and Sean – guess what they blog and twitter too!!). If you are able . . . → Read More: #TSQL2sDay Resolutions

2.5-3 years ago I would of answered this question with some smart-ass response about how DBA skills are really only necessary if you ARE a DBA. But 2 years ago KLT (@airbornegeek) scored a job in Nashville and left me in Indiana holding 2 houses, 2 dogs, 2 yards, a pool, 2 systems at work to admin and of all things the databases to take care of. At that point I became the most beloved accidental DBA. Don’t get me wrong I was really bored at work and how much of your time can you really spend looking for a job. I decided to use this opportunity to . . . → Read More: TSQL Tuesday – Why are DBA skills necessary?
By Tamera, on May 13th, 2010% Well the last two days have been REALLY long days. Tuesday I went to work. I did such a great job of wrapping things up that I had nothing to do for the last hour that I was there. Yeah fun times, I had to stay to make sure everyone saw I was there. Then it was off to the bank, home to pack the coolers, load the car and get the dogs to the vet. That didn’t go as planned. Took 1 hour to get to the bank and home. SUCK! So finally at about 10 minutes until 6 pm we rolled out of our Arrington home south bound . . . → Read More: STS-132 Atlantis Last Ride – We are here.
By Tamera, on May 11th, 2010% Well there is a lot of esplainin’ to do Lucy. I miss blogging, I hate my blog’s look, I don’t have time to figure out how to make it pretty and I can’t find someone to pay. So there you have the answer to the mystery of where I have been.
NOW here we go starting back out with a blog series just for this little trip to Florida. Let me tell you how it began. KLT mentioned that @nasa was doing a tweetup for the upcoming launch and that we should register, but they were only taking 150. He said we’d leave it in God’s hands. I saw the . . . → Read More: STS-132 Atlantis Last Ride – PRE my departure post
By Tamera, on September 11th, 2009% Just recently I decided to really get serious about my blog again. I picked up some great ideas from Brent Ozar when he did an entire series on blogging. Awesome now I have some new tools and it’s time to start working out a new design. Before I could get started I was asked to write a blog post for the Lafayette Twestival. I was honored and scared to death. Me, a guest blogger? Much to my surprise I found it easy to write, so much so I had to leave things out and even not mention people that I adore. So here it is, but keep coming back because . . . → Read More: Special Guest
