I made a couple sleeves for my mammoth XPS laptop. One of those ended up to large and the other one is great. I really like them but I am still looking for a couple things. One is a sleeve with handles. I am still dreaming up that idea. But I had been wanting to make some sort of carrying device for Bella (that is the laptop’s name Bella Finestre – pretty windows). I had been working on an idea in my head for a couple weeks and this idea revolved around denim. I had been pondering sewing together scraps of denim including jeans, pockets and random pieces laying around in the studio/server room/office. When I “plan” these things it is more of a constant worry. I think about it, I wonder how it will look, then I rethink it and then I worry some more. Suddenly during one of these pondering sessions I had an epiphany! GET a denim skirt sew it shut and make it a bag. Then I totally ran with the idea in my little head and here is what happened.
I ran off like this was a OMG had to be done right now project. First I needed to figure out how wide of a skirt I need I know Bella is 17″ wide but I am at work and have no tape measure to take with me. *Note to self buy an extra one for my purse. I took a ruler and measured from a spot at my ankle up and knew if the skirt was that wide it would work. Armed with a crazy idea I head to the nearest GoodWill and proceed to measure skirts up my leg. I am on the bargain hunt and this week’s sale color is black. I found 3 denim skirts that looked like they would work and they were all tagged black so that is 50% off $3.99. Then over to find 2 ties to uses as sashes, SCORE 2 black tags making them 50% off $1.99. Next lining for the skirt because I don’t want to go to the store. Score one more skirt (purple knit hounds tooth) and a 50% black tag sweater.
So here is my new lappy bag. For now I just hooked a shoulder strap off of another bag. This was quick and really easy.
