So this week PASS started accepting applications for seats on the Board of Directors.
Let me tell you what we have done so far as the nomination committee. I will leave out all the boring details of schedules, meetings, and reading by-laws and just stick to the real work. We were tasked with two important things that all had to be done prior to the announcement this week.
First is the application. We each made suggestions and requested a bit more information regarding the requirements within the document. The changes that were suggested were just more or less to make things a bit easier to understand. There are also a few grammar buffs on this committee (that as you know is not me) that requested grammatical corrections. Over all the application is fairly unchanged from before. As I read through the application I became more anxious thinking about my future and potentially running for the board. I had no idea that there was so much to this application.
Next is the ranking grid. Applicants are scored for their interview and application for a set of categories. Categories like; Knowledge of Pass, Vision for the Future, and Volunteer Experience. Each individual on the committee had to fill in what weight these categories should be and if there were any categories that should be added, removed or reworked. We turned in out ranks and they were placed together for totals and averages to be created and then the final weight. I was almost frightened to look, scared that I was some crazy outlier. But the good news was we were mostly in the same ball park. I noticed that the most everyone thought the same categories were important, just assigned values differently. A fun game of making things total 100.
I full heartedly believe that this will conclude the easy part, from here on we will be reading applications, researching applicants, conducting interviews and ranking folks.
While there are only 3 seats open I still hope we get a lot of great applicants. I wish the best of luck to everyone who does apply!
**Also note that this is my own opinion and that PASS is allowing me to volunteer on this committee. I wanted to blog about this experience hoping to inspire others to volunteer.
