Well La Jolla to be exact!!!!
What a great weekend with #SQLFamily. I believe this is the farthest we’ve traveled to attend a SQL Saturday. Had we driven it would have taken 28 hours and we’d put 2,041 on the car just to get there. Good thing we have the modern marvels of flight. Instead we rode in the back of a Southwest 737 for just short of 4 hours. So much fun to leave Nashville at 8 am and arrive at 10 am local time. Fun until 8 pm local time when I start to get sleepy!!!
We had an action packed weekend. There was a BBQ on Thursday night. 3 large vehicles showed up at our hotel to haul us up the coast. We enjoyed another fabulous wine tasting from Frias. Drew tried to herd the cats and keep us on the same bottle of wine but really that is a big job. The great news is that we just sent in an order for MORE of their wine. Denny will be brining it to us in Charlotte next month using his United Airlines status to check up to 5 bags. Then we’ll drive it home. I am pretty sure at this rate I will fill the wine cellar before it is even built.
Friday kicked off with a Brewery Tour. Scavengers picked us up at the hotel in 6×6 Swiss Military Pinzgauers and took us to 3 great local breweries. They still had the gun mounts in them. Really a cool ride, no I mean it the air flow through those things is amazing. It did lead me to my unanswered question of the day; “How do dogs breath when they stick their head out the window?”. You see if I looked out the window, mind you not even sticking my whole head out, it was all I could do to breathe. We had some tasty treats that day. The problem with a beer tour is that I am not a beer drinker, I mean I have A beer now and then and quite possibly even 2. I was so full by the 3rd place that I couldn’t drink but 1 and as you can see in the photo our glasses were small. Maybe it wasn’t the beer, maybe it was the veggie pizza I stole from Karen. 😉 Friday night it was off to a Mexican restaurant for the speaker dinner. First time I have ever been to a speaker dinner were we just ordered off the menu. It was quite nice and we had a lovely time. Got to catch up with a few folks we’d not seen in a while, got to meet a few new folks and generally just hang out with #SQLFamily.
Now off to the day of the big event! Saturday we were running a tick behind because breakfast. Yeah just breakfast. Anyway I was manning the PASS table in the vendor area for most of the day. My session went well, I did however bork my demo for the first time. Damn good thing I had a back up. I did manage to help with the WIT session, I handed out goodies and took a few photos. The bad news is that I missed Kerry’s session. Yes folks he finally did it. He presented about SSAS deployments. I was running late from the WIT session and didn’t have anyone to cover the PASS table. So I didn’t make it up there. Guess I will get another chance in Kalamazoo. I feel really bad that I missed it, hopefully he’ll forgive me.
So congratulations to all the organizers for a successful SQLSaturday and thank you so much for taking good care of us!
